Schorem Haarsnijder en Barbier “Just a regular day at Schorem”

A sunny day in Rotterdam, some regular patrons dropped in for a hot towel shave or tight haircut.

Schorem.  Watch it.  Be that.  Now.

PROJECT UPDATE: Crime In Stereo - EC//NIETL Deluxe DVD

A brief update for all you CIS fans who have been patiently waiting for this deluxe DVD and free DVD. Finally the authoring company have come back to me with the above prices for the production of the DELUXE units.

Realistically we’re looking at a cost of £5 in the UK and $8 in the USA/Rest of the world per DVD.

No I’m not joking! That’s how cheap we want the units to be. The next part now is down to where we go with, postage, the cost of the DVD menu creation, and charity donations. The DVD menu was £100 to have put together. Why was this paid for? The answer is simply because I put the artwork onto the background of the menu design and found it looked far too static. So I got in touch with a motion graphics artist and he gave the project a special cut-rate. For £100 he’s made the menu come alive in the way I wanted. Its visually stimulating in it’s new digital form; giving the product far more value. All the design work is exceptional but for it to evolve from a print form to a digital format, we needed that little extra professional involvement.

As promised, we’re being completely transparent with EVERYTHING. There is nothing here being hidden. I’m also considering how amazing it would be if we got some screen prints designed. I know a lot of people are waiting for the kickstarter but as we are so near the end of this giant I feel it’s a shame to rush hastily forward. This is especially true when we can bulk it out another step with a screen print or various other bonus items? How do potential customers/fans feel about this; I’d love to hear your input? Again this is only being put out to the crowd for a couple of weeks, if we hear nothing back or don’t get enough interest we’ll be rolling out the kick starter in it’s basic format (the DVD only).

I’ve also been in touch with Bridge Nine who might stock the free DVD’s and get them being passed out as free ‘bonus’ accompaniments for other Bridge Nine webstore products. That has yet to be confirmed though and is just one avenue of distribution to get the free DVDs ‘out there’. Lets not forget that there are no profits involved in this as well. The DVDs wouldn’t be advertised as part of merchandise items, they would simply be added to packages without prior notice.

The number of deluxe DVDs we have printed will be based on the response on kickstarter. Also it must be noted that if the kickstarter doesn’t reach the minimum target, we can’t get these DVDs pressed, so it’s within the interests of everyone to remind anyone they know about this project. It’s a bonafide one off!

Forecasted complete costs are thus (not finalised):

  • UK copies with postage: £10-12
  • The rest of the world with postage: $20-25

This gives you all some idea of how much deluxe copies will be. As previously stated I would love to hear your feedback on this, or any ideas of things to include as bonus items in the release. Please drop me a message directly or a reply to this post. If any messages that come in are really great ideas I’ll reply and put them out there for everyone on this blog.

Finally, the DVD will soon be heading off to the band for a final look where they will give it their approval. That is the last step in this whole process. I’m now in touch with Alex Dunne over email, which in itself is something of a miracle because (and I admire this fact a lot) he doesn’t come on the internet a lot!

Thanks for your continued support. I can’t wait to get these out there.

Ryan.

1. Never Meant
Let’s just forget Everything said And everything we did Best friends and better halves Goodbyes And the autumn night When we realized We were falling out of love There were some things That were said That weren’t meant But were said Like we never did Not to be Overly Dramatic I just think it’s best ‘Cause you can’t miss what you forget So let’s just pretend Everything and anything Between you and me Was never meant
2. The Summer Ends
Thinking about leaving How I should say goodbye With a handshake or an embrace Or a kiss on the cheek, possibly all three Well, maybe I’ve been wrong Maybe my intentions are irrelevant But honestly, it’s not just for me We’ve both been so unhappy So let’s just see what happens When the summer ends
3. Honestly
Honestly, I can’t remember teen dreams All my teenage feelings and their meanings They seem too see-through to be true All the whos are there but the whys are unclear Picture this, a long-awaited, sickening kiss How does it feel to know Explain how you’ve re-written history These things change despite the complicated beginning to all of this Honestly
4. For Sure
June seems too late, delayed Maybe for the better Imagine us together We’re relatively stable and tentatively able To say for certain whether this uncertainty Is for sure
5.You Know I Should Be Leaving Soon / Instrumental
6. But The Regrets Are Killing Me
Fools leave too soon Built to fill roles and fall Standing alone again Distant and dissatisfied These four years And how we say goodbye to these four years A long goodbye with mixed emotions Just fragments of another life I’m not dead yet But the regrets are killing me
7. I’ll See You When We’re Both Not So Emotional
If you’re so prone To accidents and misunderstandings You may accidentally Misinterpret honesty for selfishness We’re two human beings Individually With inherent interest in Each other and how we relate If you’re still prone To accidents and misunderstandings You won’t understand me Or my motivation for being alone We’re two human beings Individually With inherent interest in Each other and how we relate Considering everything Me leaving with regrets Only makes sense I’ll see you when we’re both not so emotional
8. Stay Home
Don’t leave home again If empathy takes energy Cause everyone feels just like you That’s life - so social That’s life - so social That’s life - so social… That’s life - it’s so social So physical So so-so So emotional So stay home
9. The One With The Wurlitzer / Instrumental

American Football is perfect.

“The riverbed, the hose, the Echoplex, the crazy levels and grimy heads, the weeks spent in sweaty denim - they all added to the recording something that was sonically crucial, but also stubbornly resistant to mastering it for vinyl. Every time a mastering engineer tried to make a lacquer disc of the music, the needle, as if in protest, would literally leap out of the groove. Finally, two mastering engineers, Bob Ludwig and Dennis King, discovered that if the levels were set extremely low they could just manage to get the thing on disc. The result was Nebraska, an album nearly too lo-fi for vinyl.”
Greg Milner, Perfecting Sound Forever

Another Columbia record, although this time it’s an original mass-produced pressing - on thin, light vinyl - I bought second-hand, rather than the heavyweight 2008 repressing of Grace. You can see the quality of the writing and the use Milner makes out of a familiar story, which segues into a  wonderful description of the material production of Springsteen’s next album Born in the USA as the first CD to be made in America, and onwards into the analog v. digital divide.
I’m not a huge Springsteen fan, in fact I’m quite a small one: this is the only record I’ve bought, while I listen to Born To Run occasionally. But Nebraska is superb (especially if you can hear the Suicide influences).

This is one of my favorite records I own. Glad to have this in my collection.
